Member Covenant
At Gospel Joy we believe that covenant membership in a local church is one of life’s most important decisions. Church membership provides the biblical context for Christians to commit to one another and help each other follow Jesus.
Gospel Joy Membership Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive Jesus Christ as the Lord, Savior, and, supreme Treasure of our lives, and having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another.
As members of the body of Christ and by God’s help through his Spirit we will seek:
To keep ourselves in the love of God, remembering daily that we have been washed by the blood of Christ, forgiven of all our sins, and adopted as God’s beloved children in Christ who sovereignly keeps and shepherds our souls. (Jude 21; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 1:7; Galatians 4:4-7; John 10:28-29)
To gather regularly to uphold the corporate worship of God through preaching, the ordinances, prayer, and song, contributing cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry for the spread of the gospel and the relief of the poor. (Hebrews 10:25; Acts 2:42-47; Colossians 3:16; 2 Corinthians 9:6-11)
To love one another with brotherly affection, bear one another’s burdens, remember one another in prayer, fight sin together through regular confession, and strive to maintain unity with one another, being slow to take offense and always ready for reconciliation. (Romans 12:10; Galatians 6:2; Ephesians 1:16; 1 John 1:8-10; Ephesians 4:1-6; James 1:19-20; Colossians 3:13)
To walk faithfully and labor fruitfully in the life of singleness or marriage that God has assigned to each of us, to persevere in family and personal devotions, educate our children in the Christian faith and to intentionally seek the salvation of our family, friends, and neighbors. (1 Corinthians 7:17; Philippians 1:22; Matthew 6:6; Psalm 1; Deuteronomy 6:4-7; Psalm 78:1-8; Matthew 5:14-16)
To honor and pray for the leaders of this church as they labor to preach and teach God’s word remembering that they work together with us for our joy and progress in the faith. If necessary we will submit ourselves to biblical church discipline, in the hope of restoration with God and this church. (1 Timothy 5:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:12; Hebrews 13:7, 17; 2 Corinthians 1:24)
To unite and covenant with another likeminded church, as far as it is possible, if I should remove from this church body. (Hebrews 10:25)
